EDUCATION

Narrated Abu Hurairah:

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him."

Young people hold the potential to shape the future, not only for themselves but also for their communities and the environment. Education plays a crucial role in equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to lead meaningful lives. Universities, as key institutions of higher learning, have a unique responsibility to ensure that young people learn positive, constructive, and helpful principles.

Firstly, universities can design curricula that emphasize holistic learning, encompassing academic subjects, critical thinking, creativity, emotional intelligence, and sustainability. By integrating multidisciplinary approaches, universities can equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the world, nurturing their ability to analyze complex issues and propose innovative solutions.

Other than that, experiential learning offers young people the opportunity to actively engage with real-world challenges. Universities can provide internships, service-learning programs, and community-based projects to encourage students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Through these experiences, young people develop a deeper understanding of societal and environmental issues, fostering empathy, collaboration, and a sense of responsibility.

The ability to think critically and solve problems is fundamental for young people to navigate the complexities of today's world. Universities should emphasize developing these skills by encouraging open dialogue, debate, and analysis of diverse perspectives. By fostering an environment that values critical thinking, universities empower young people to question assumptions, challenge prevailing norms, and seek innovative solutions to address societal and environmental challenges.

Finally, universities have the opportunity to cultivate global citizens who are aware of their local and global responsibilities. By exposing young people to diverse cultures, global challenges, and the interdependence of nations, universities can foster an appreciation for diversity, empathy, and a sense of global solidarity. Through international exchange programs, cultural events, and collaboration with partner institutions, universities prepare young people to engage in a globalized world and work collectively towards a sustainable future.

Education is the most important aspect that needs to be nurtured in every individual thoroughly so that it is easier to achieve the other SDGs. The Prophet Muhammad SAW was also asked to "read" when the first revelation was given, thus showing how important education is.
