CHALLENGES IN GROUP PROJECTS

Image
Group projects are a common part of academic and professional life. They provide an opportunity for individuals to collaborate, learn from each other, and produce collective outcomes. However, group projects are not without their fair share of challenges. From communication barriers to conflicting schedules, these hurdles can test the patience and resilience of team members. Here are a few challenges that we faced. Firstly, effective communication is the cornerstone of successful group projects. However, challenges often arise due to differences in communication styles, language barriers, or a lack of clear guidelines. Misunderstandings can lead to delays, confusion, and compromised project outcomes. The hardest part is to set up a meeting where everyone can be present. As a group that comprises of students from three different Kuliyyahs, our timetable was very different, making it difficult to coordinate a meet up to do our assignments. We had to reschedule our meetings a lot due to

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Image
The world faces a mounting waste problem that poses significant environmental and economic challenges. In recent years, the concept of a circular economy has gained prominence as a potential solution to this issue. A circular economy aims to minimize waste generation by keeping resources in use for as long as possible, maximizing their value and reducing environmental impact. Firstly, the circular economy emphasizes resource efficiency and waste minimization as core principles. By adopting strategies such as recycling, reusing, and remanufacturing, the circular economy reduces the reliance on finite resources and minimizes the amount of waste generated. For instance, companies like Patagonia and Interface have implemented take-back programs, allowing customers to return products for recycling or refurbishment, thereby reducing waste and extending the lifespan of materials. Next, in a circular economy, the focus shifts from a linear "take-make-dispose" model to one that promot

EDUCATION

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him." Young people hold the potential to shape the future, not only for themselves but also for their communities and the environment. Education plays a crucial role in equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to lead meaningful lives. Universities, as key institutions of higher learning, have a unique responsibility to ensure that young people learn positive, constructive, and helpful principles.  Firstly, universities can design curricula that emphasize holistic learn

THE ROLE OF INDIVIDUALS IN ADVANCING SDG

Image
What it lies in our power to do, it lies in our power not to do. Those were the words of Aristotle, a Greek philosopher who is known by the majority of the world. It is saying that “Virtue lies in our power, and similarly so does vice; because where it is in our power to act, it is also in our power not to act...” Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outline a comprehensive framework to address the world's most pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges. While achieving these goals requires collective action at all levels, individual efforts play a crucial role in driving meaningful change. Here are a few contributions I have done in promoting the SDG. Every year, my neighbourhood would make a environmental clean-up campaign and I would volunteer every time. The reason is because living in a cleaner environment is more comfortable than a dirty and messy one. By participating in environmental clean-up campaigns and community development projects, individuals contribut

AVOIDING FOOD WASTAGE

In verse 31 of Surah al-A’raf in the Quran, it is stated thus: “O children of Adam! Wear your beautiful apparel at every time and place of prayer; eat and drink; but waste not by excess, for God loves not the wasters.” I used to work as a waiter at an event hall in Kuala Lumpur, the event hall was very big and every event amounted to thousands of guests. That being said, the food served were also in huge portions. I still remember very vividly, the amount of leftover food was overwhelming, some of the domes have not even been touched at all, and yet, we were ordered to throw away all the leftover food. As someone who has been taught not to waste food ever since I was young, this was a horrid experience. I could imagine the amount of struggling families those food could have fed, but they were all being fed to the dumpster instead. I could

INTRODUCTION

Assalamualaikum WBT. My name is Muhammad Rafiqi bin Mohd Razak from the Kuliyyah of Information Technology. I come from a humble family of five and I am from Gombak, Kuala Lumpur. Yes, my house is in Gombak and is only 10 to 15 minutes away from IIUM. There are several reasons as to why I chose IIUM, one main factor is that it offers Computer Science as a major, which many universities do not. Ever since I was little, I have been fascinated by the computer. Being the youngest in the family with a gap of 8 years between me and my brother, I did not play outside as much as other kids. Thus, I would turn on the old and slow computer that our family used back in the day and played what I could. Some of the games that you may be familiar with are Minecraft, Roblox and Counter-Strike. I would be on the computer for hours, not just playing video games but also exploring the internet. That is why, even at a young age I have been rather well-versed in the digital world. That is why I want to
